Welcome to Frankfurt!

For the first time in its long history, the AGM & Conference of ICSA (International Council of Securities Associations), which is the assembly of trade associations and SROs comprised by securities firms operating in domestic and cross-border markets around the globe, will be held in Germany.

The high-profile, three-day event, which will take place 19 - 21 May 2024, will be organised by the Bundesverband der Wertpapierfirmen (bwf), one of ICSA's member associations. The conference venue will be Frankfurt am Main, which is Germany's most prominent financial center, one of the country's most vibrant and international cities, and, last but not least, the location of bwf's office.

At bwf we are already very much looking forward to welcoming not only all our friends and colleagues from ICSA coming all the way from East and West Asia, Latin America, North America, and Europe but also our valued guests from the European and German financial community, other trade associations and stake holders, representatives of regulatory authorities, as well as political decision makers on a local, national and European level.

Kind regards from the board and the event team at bwf!

Stockholm 8th February 2024

Dear ICSA members, colleagues, and friends,

It has been an honour to Chair the International Council of Securities Associations (ICSA) over this past year. I have come to appreciate more than ever the value of our strong partnerships across the globe in our mutual commitment to the growth and stability of the international capital markets on which the world economy depends.

I now have the pleasure of welcoming you to the 2024 Annual General Meeting in Frankfurt, a city that combines its rich culture and traditions with world leadership in modern finance.

I would like to give special thanks to our host Bundesverband der Wertpapierfirmen (bwf) for its care, thoroughness, and hard work in organising the outstanding program. While a relatively small association, this core ICSA member has proved once again that size is no impediment to achievement!

It is a busy and important time for our industry, with geo-political change at the forefront. Over a few short but full days, the wide-ranging and thought-provoking AGM agenda – led by distinguished speakers - has been designed to inform and also shape future ICSA activity.

In addition to being a valuable forum for substantive discussion, one of the AGM’s strengths over the years has been the networking opportunities it provides. The exciting social program and evening dinners will allow us to continue that tradition.

I look forward to participating in productive discussions and hearing your diverse perspectives!

Warm regards,

Urban Funered
Chair of the International Council of Securities Associations
CEO of the Swedish Securities Markets Association

Pre conference tour & welcome reception with dinner

Sunday 19 May, 09:15 - 21:45 (estimated), ICSA Members and invited guests only

It is a long established and very agreeable tradition that ICSA members coming from all over the world gather together on the day before the AGM for a trip which not only gives plenty of opportunities for talks and networking but also often reflects typical aspects of the host country. Following popular demand by ICSA members, we have decided to take you to one of the most beautiful and oldest folk/beer festivals in Germany, the Erlangen "Bergkirchweih". However, to give ICSA delegates an even more comprehensive impression of Germany's tourist and culinary diversity, we will complement our day trip with a visit to "Juliusspital" in Würzburg, one of the most renowned wine estates of the Franconia region.

* Please note that a shuttle service from Frankfurt to Würzburg - about a one hour drive - can be organized for delegates who will be arriving on Sunday during the day and cannot participate in the full pre conference tour.
09:00-11:30 Bus transfer from the conference hotel to Erlangen "Bergkirchweih" folk/beer festival
12:00-12:10 Greeting by Dr. Florian Janik, Lord Mayor of Erlangen
15:15-16:30 Bus transfer from Erlangen to "Juliusspital" vineyard, Würzburg
16:30-18:00 Guided tour through the cellars of the "Julisspital" estate with exquisite wine tasting
18:00-20:30 Welcome reception and dinner in the historic "Würzburger Stein" room *
20:30-21:45 Bus transfer back to the hotel

Erlangen "Bergkirchweih" - one of the most beautiful and oldest folk/beer festivals

“Der Berg ruft!” ("The mountain is calling!") is the motto every year at Whitsun at the "Bergkirchweih" folk/beer festival in Erlangen, in Franconia, northern Bavaria. The Octoberfest in Munich may be larger and more famous, but Erlangen's Bergkirchweih is undeniably older – by more than half a century (dating back to 1755) – and it has a very different, much cozier, atmosphere.

The festive ground winds its way along numerous old cellars with picturesque sandstone entrances (which were used by breweries to store their beer before refrigerators were invented). Very different from the huge tents at the Octoberfest, folks sit outside on wooden benches under old trees, nicely decorated with lanterns. The Bergkirchweih attracts around one million visitors from around the globe every year (almost ten times the population of the city of Erlangen) and transforms the festive ground into a joyful place to get together with music, beer, dancing, fun and cheers.

We will be guests at the “Entlaskeller”, which is the oldest rock cellar in Erlangen, dating back to 1686! Today it is one of the most popular and sought-after places at the Bergkirchweih. Furthermore, as a special gesture of hospitality and appreciation, the Lord Mayor of Erlangen, Dr. Florian Janik, will personally welcome our ICSA delegation.

So come with us and enjoy the unrivalled atmosphere, tasty delights from the regional cuisine like roast ox on the spit, pretzels, sausages, cheese and first and foremost of course, the tasty beer, brewed exclusively for this occasion. And no worries, we will also have vegetarian and non-alcoholic options (including non-alcoholic beer). This year “the mountain is calling you personally!”, so do not miss the opportunity!

"Juliusspital" vineyard Würzburg - guided wine cellar tour & ICSA welcome reception with dinner

Franconia is not only famous for its beer culture but also for its very renowned wine region. This is why we thought that it would be a good idea to take a break half way back to Frankfurt and visit the centuries-old and internationally widely applauded “Juliusspital” vineyard in Würzburg. At Juliusspital, an exclusive guided cellar tour with fine wine tasting will be followed by the traditional ICSA welcome reception and dinner. A great chance to network with all your existing ICSA colleagues and also to make new friends.

The Juliusspital vineyards are spread across more than 100 km of the countryside of Franconia and with around 180 hectares, make up the second largest wine estate in Germany. Its vines are planted on the Franconian Triassic, a unique three-part rock formation made of red sandstone, shell limestone and keuper. Juliusspital owns and maintains some of the best locations in Franconia. So no wonder, it is the home to excellent, widely recognized wines. In fact its history as a vineyard dates back to 1576 - that's what you call experience in wine-growing!

However, Juliusspital is more than just an acclaimed wine estate, it is also part of a charitable foundation which also dates back to 1576. Till today, the social arm of the Juliusspital Foundation is devoted to this mission - in the hospital ("spital" is short for "hospital"), the senior citizens' foundation, hospice and palliative ward take care of those in need every day. The vineyard has been part of the foundation from the very beginning and its profits have always contributed to fulfilling its social responsibilities.
